If you are looking for a place to have a personal retreat, or just a place to rest while you explore Hong Kong, Ascension House is an ideal choice. Located in the Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre, Ascension House provides a simple yet beautiful environment which rests the soul. Built in the 1930's, in the style of a Chinese Buddhist monastery, for dialogue between Christians and Buddhists, Tao Fong Shan offers a tranquil space which is virtually unmatched in Hong Kong. Visitors may also attend the morning, midday and evening prayers of the Centre, which are a central part of the communal lifestyle here.
Ascension House began to host backpackers in 1986. Traveling requires an adventurous spirit leaving one's comfort zone, and entering an unfamiliar place. It is not only a journey of the body, but also the soul and spirit. Ascension House is a place where travelers from different countries, and with different beliefs and philosophies, gather for rest, renewal and friendship. Tao Fong Shan (including Ascension House) is a non-profit organization.
The managers of Ascension House are volunteers from Scandinavia. They live in Ascension House and are glad to share their home with you.

What is near Ascension House?
Ascension House is only a 15-minute walk from the Sha Tin railway station and bus terminus. You can find everything you need in the nearby shops, or in the busy markets of Mongkok. You can also explore the abundant natural resources of Hong Kong. Needle Hill and the MacLehose Trail are within an easy walk of the Centre, and the beautiful beaches of Sai Kung are only a short bus ride away. Hong Kong is full of interesting temples, pagodas and other religious venues. The Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple and the Che Kung Temple are only two that are very close by. The Ascension House volunteers would love to help you to explore Hong Kong!
