Mad Dogs is all about adventure.

Our three scheduled events (The Taiwan Epic, The Japan Epic and The Kaiping Dash) represent some of the very best in Asian adventure cycling. These are fully customisable - you can take on the while Epic or as little as you like.

We have an even larger repertoire available to private groups of 10+.

Our flexible events present scintillating and unique opportunities to experience a deeply personal interaction with fascinating Asian countries - the people, the food, the landscape, the street life, the culture. Cycling every inch of possible distance between two fabulous places, you will have a privileged fully balanced view of life there, and support is always to hand when needed. At the end, you’ll come away with a great deal of pride!

In 2009, our founder Humphrey Wilson, after a career in accountancy, picked up a bicycle and cycled all the way from Buckingham Palace in London to Government House in Hong Kong. He experienced unimaginable adventures in ten months across 22 countries. When he finished, he soon realised that his identity had become far more defined by his immense cycling achievement than by being a financier.

He wanted others, to experience the same satisfaction of using the human body to travel an extraordinarily long way but knew that for most people, it is unrealistic to take more than a week off work. Then came an epiphany – if the cycle ride is supported and nothing is carried, longer distances can be covered each day and over a week, provided a lot of doggedness, grit and determination, an extraordinary feat is accomplished – one which, like Humphrey’s original ride, truly sets a Mad Dog apart from his or her peers.

How does the Mad Dog differ from a cycle tour?
A traditional cycling tour is a holiday designed to give you a good time and you will often be shepherded from one place to another. A tour also usually "cherry picks" the cycling, often using a vehicle to skip some parts. The result is that you may have had a good holiday but you will not have actually achieved anything tangible or impressive.

A Mad Dog is a unique, gritty challenge and although there will be many enjoyable elements, fun in itself is not the main object. We want you to accomplish something wonderful. The role of our support and organisation is enabling and empowering. We will take care of your luggage (while you are in the saddle), your hotels and support will be there for you if things go wrong, so all you need to worry about is the cycling...but you will not be nannied and shepherded.

You must take responsibility for your meals, your well-being and your refreshments (aside from the checkpoint and breakfast) and you must ensure you are going the right way (using the helpful directions). Your hand will not be held but support will be there if anything goes wrong. A Mad Dog is an adventure challenge event and not strictly a cycling tour.
