株式会社片山商店は、約200年の伝統を誇る世界的に有数の先染め織物・播州繊の産地で1913年に創業した老舗の織機機械商社です。近年、安価な輸入製品に押され低迷する地場産業の生き残りをかけ、独自の発想による「多品種小ロット生産システム」の開発に着手し、県繊維工業技術センター、繊維機械メーカー、地元織物業界など、多くの方々の協力を得て、2004年２月、１本の糸に９種類の異なる材質・太さの糸を繋いでカラフルな織物を連続生産する世界初のシステム「アレンジワインダー」の開発に成功しました。（2005年・第1回「ものづくり日本大賞」内閣総理大臣賞を受賞）片山商店は、これからも地場産業の復活に挑戦していきます。
