In the music business, the word "Electone" is a trade-marked symbol of the Yamaha Corporation. In simple terms it means "electronic tone" or sound. Electone has always been the brand name of Yamaha's electronic organ instrument line. Over the years, however, Electone has come to essentially mean "playing everything myself" among enthusiasts.

Electone has been described as the world's most complete musical instrument. It combines digital multi-keyboards, drum machine and special effects into a comprehensive performance platform. With practice and determination a player can render incredibly realistic and stirring renditions of almost any style or genre of music. The Japanese are especially fond of referring to their organ playing talents as simply playing Electone.

Through the years Yamaha has released countless models of Electone instruments. The instruments are identified by model numbers like D-1, GX-1 and EL-90. Starting with the ground-breaking and technologically advanced E-70 model, Yamaha began blazing a new and innovative path in the organ industry by applying polyphonic synthesis technology calls "PASS" to an organ instrument. The results are the hallmark of Electone.

Soon after the E-70 PASS models came the FX/FS series which later evolving into the HX/HS series. With these models came features never before found on organ-style instruments. This new genre of Electone allowed unheard-of creative expression and artistic freedom. No longer was an organist limited to organ-like sounds. Electone instruments brought to the artist's fingertips all the instruments of the orchestra - and more!

The most recent line is known as the EL series. The quality, expression and sheer number of voices in these instruments surpass even that of the HX/HS series. The voices available run the full gamut of the spectrum. From piano, strings, brass, wind, plucked and percussive instruments to timpani, electric guitar, human choruses and even harmonica. They are all there and most importantly they sound INCREDIBLE!
