熊谷屋の駄菓子
北鍛冶町は、昔、仙台の城下町を南北に奥州街道の道筋にあたり、奥筋諸大名の江戸参勤路であった古い町人町でした。
この町に、当家初代の熊谷屋冶三郎が菓子舗熊谷屋を元禄八年三月に創業いたし、以来十代三百有余年にわたって暖簾を継いでまいって居ります。また、当店真向いには当町の旧家土井家邸即ち「荒城の月」で名高い土井晩翠先生の生誕の地です。
仙台駄菓子は仙台の人々に幼い頃から口に親しまれて来た常民の菓子で、昔から熊谷屋の駄菓子として有名であり、数十種の駄菓子は元禄の昔から当父祖代々の口伝として、その製法を伝えて居ります。
これこそは絶対に他の追従も類似も許さぬ仙台の地方色ゆたかな当家独自の持ち味です。百聞は一味に如かずという諺もございます。
