General information
Welcome to Port Hills Karate Christchurch. We offer karate classes in our
safe and friendly dojo at Christchurch South Intermediate School. Shotokan
karate is an art and discipline suitable for all ages and abilities, which
can help build the confidence, self-control, coordination and, physical
fitness.
Highly experienced instructors nurture creativity and discipline through a
martial art (budō) that places emphasis on self-development, which is
hugely beneficial to children.
Chief Instructor, Sensei Dan Jakes has been training for thirty years in
Shotokan Karate, holds a third degree black belt and is a previous New
Zealand national champion and national team member. Dan has two decades of
coaching experience and is also a qualified teacher.
Though traditional karate is the focus, ‘sport karate’ skills are also
taught so that students who are interested have the opportunity to compete
in tournaments.
Classes are held during the school term at Christchurch South Intermediate
School Hall.
Monday 4:00pm – 4:55pm (5-8 year olds)
Monday 5:00pm – 5:55pm (8 years+)
