BRIEF HISTORY:
In 1856, piano maker Joachim Friedrich Schwarzlose founds the drug store J.F. Schwarzlose Söhne for his sons. Soon, his sons start with the production of perfumes; their business is located on Markgrafenstraße 29.
In 1858, J.F. Schwarzlose Söhne takes over the distinguished fragrance manufacturer Treu & Nuglisch, which was founded in the 1820’s and had been purveyor to the Court. From this time on, the company goes about its business under the name of J.F. Schwarzlose Söhne – Treu & Nuglisch.
Around 1900, the company operates under the name of Hohenzollern-Parfümerie Schwarzlose Söhne as “Purveyor to the Court of His Majesty The Emperor and King”. This name even attracts China’s high nobility, as proven by a flacon that was found in the collection of the Last Emperor Pu Yi.
In 1922, Ernst Köthner and his wife, Hedwig Köthner, rename the company J.F. Schwarzlose Söhne GmbH. The factory located on Dreysestraße 5 in Moabit, is a contribution in kind of the limited company; the shop located in Markgrafenstraße 29 becomes court registry.
In 1930, the company survives the inflation in a shaken but solid condition regaining worldwide reputation. Consequently, they move into a modernised store located on Leipziger Straße 113 in September, 1930.
In 1976, J. F. Schwarzlose Söhne is liquidated.
In 2012, comeback of the brand in form of J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin perfume.
