The Arc Cabin Company Information

General information

It is a timber cabin made from sustainable cedar wood. It has a quirky large veranda for taking in the views and spotting the resident kingfisher.

The interior has been designed using reclaimed and recycled furniture and artefacts. It has beautiful feature windows which frame the local landscape.
Much of the art work, woodwork and crockery has been made by local artists.
The Arc is the only cabin on site and is adjacent to the main house the old reed cutters cottage and boat shed.
Once through the reclaimed front door there is a large open plan living space which has a wood burning cooker in the living area and a large oak table to eat around. There is quirky country-style kitchen part of the open plan design. There is a curtain that separates the bedroom space from the rest of the cabin. In here you will find a king-sized antique French reclaimed bed covered in bright cushions, fabulous linen and warm colours , Internal fabric shutters make the space even more luxurious.
There is also a lovely large but cosy bathroom with a free standing double ended bath and separate power shower.

Bi-fold doors swing open onto the large veranda which looks out onto the river Nene and the herbs and wild flowers on the grounds of the property. The surroundings are a magnet for wildlife, so take binoculars on your walks and spot rare red kites, buzzards and falcons.

It is believed that Kenneth Grahame stayed at The Island House and used it as inspiration for the classic children's book 'The Wind and The Willows'. The picturesque Elton Mill and Loch are a short saunter away, as is Elton Hall which stands in the midst of its famous parklands and gardens.

Wildlife & the environment
The Arc bathroom over looks a poplar plantation which was planted by forestry commission after the black poplar was found to be dying out. In the late 90s the environment agency put in an otter holt at The Island so if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse. The Island is home to muntjac, a resident kingfisher, red kites, swans nesting, badgers, geese and many other birds.
