Recently referred to as “The Guru of Mental Capacity” by Tom Blackburn of Compass Law, I have conducted and supported others to conduct in excess of 1000 mental capacity assessments in both clinical and legal settings. I regularly teaches Dr’s, nurses and other health care professionals, as well as legal professionals the practicalities of assessing mental capacity in line with the MCA 2 stage test and associated guidance. I was the first mental health nurse to have evidence accepted by the Court of Protection in relation to a CoP3 application and have also been published in the STEP journal with my article entitled “How robust is your capacity assessment?”. I was part of the Reference Guide Group for the Empowerment guide to assessing financial capacity and I am currently working with STEP to develop a national referral protocol for solicitors and legal professionals when instructing medical professionals to assess capacity. In addition to this I am writing a book about the practicalities of assessing mental capacity in both clinical and legal settings.

I founded TSF Consultants in 2011 and we are now the UK's largest provider of mental capacity assessments to the legal profession. Our network of assessors spans the UK and comprises solely of currently practicing health care professionals who are experts in the field of mental capacity. All assessors are fully trained in associated case law and have full PI cover.
