Pala Sunglasses

General information

For 20 years, Pala founder John Pritchard has worked in digital media for large corporations but
has always had a desire to do something that would really make a difference. A few years ago,
John embarked on his mission to create a business that truly gave back and Pala was born.

Inspired by other brands that evolved their business around a social cause, John wanted to find one that he felt he could genuinely have an impact on. Over the years he had become
familiar with the problems surrounding the lack of eye care in low-income countries, largely thanks to media articles covering the subject. Undoubtedly a significant global issue that needed a solution, it was a quick and easy decision to put this at the heart of his business proposal. We could say he had a ‘vision’, but we won’t go there.

Through the sale of Pala’s sunglasses, grants are provided to create vision centres, dispensaries and screening programmes
in Africa. Each project or programme provides a cost per patient seen and Pala is therefore able to work back to the necessary donation required from the sale of each pair of sunglasses to match that patient cost, thus fulfilling the ‘buy-give’ promise.

When John began the process of producing the sunglasses he had three big requirements: great, classic design with an edge; superior quality material and construction; and excellent value
for money. Pala are proud to offer sunglasses with the same quality materials that you would normally associate with the more premium end of the market. Inflating price tags or compromising on quality isn’t an option.
