Down News is an online newspaper in Co. Down and was established by Jim Masson in October 2009 as a limited company, and covers news and sports.
Based in the heart of the Down business community at Down Business Centre in Downpatrick, Down News continues to be a very popular, FREE, post-Troubles hyper local blog.
It's ethos is non-political and it aspires to represent the community on an equitable basis.
Down News won the Down District Council Best Use of Social Media category in the Business awards in 2011, and was a successful recipient in the Down District Council Dragon's Den business competition in 2015.
As a local news outlet, it encourages members of the community to contribute news and sports reports and photographs and to engage in its social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter.
Down News rarely reports on court cases unless they are of significant public interest as it considers this as intrusive to the individuals concerned.
