General information

I started the piano at the age of 9 and had taken all my ABRSM grades by the age of 16.
I performed various piano concertos with the Northampton County Youth Orchestra and took part in various ensembles.
I moved to London at the age of 19 to study Piano Performance at the London College of Music back in the early 80's when WS Lloyd Webber was the director.
I studied under Philip Jenkins, Peter Carpenter and John Pelham Burn.
I took part in many recitals and Music Festivals.
My teaching career has spanned some 35 years in total, but has been my full time profession for the past 20 years. I teach from beginners to Diploma preparation, all abilities and ages.
While I advocate taking grade exams it is by no means a necessity, people learn for different reasons, but first and foremost, everyone should learn for pleasure!
I mainly travel to people's homes but I have a number that come to my house, depending on what time and convenience of distance.
I teach in 30 and 60 minute sessions but alternative durations can be arranged.
Normally the first meeting is free of charge, usually having a chat..to get to know the person, to talk about their aspirations and expectations, also I will discuss the material and methods I use.. and of course, the importance of regular practise!
With my piano pupils, Music Theory is included, but separate Theory lessons can be arranged for any instrumentalists, typically preparing for their grade 5.
