The IHEU is the global representative body of the humanist movement, uniting a diversity of non-religious organisations and individuals.
Our vision is a Humanist world; a world in which human rights are respected and everyone is able to live a life of dignity. We work to build and represent the global Humanist movement that defends human rights and promotes Humanist values world-wide.
The IHEU commissions the triennial IHEU World Humanist Congress, works to build the humanist movement and to promote our humanist policy agenda globally. We seek to influence international policy through representation and information, and to promote the worldview of Humanism to the world.
Founded in Amsterdam in 1952, now headquartered in London, United Kingdom, the IHEU is an international non-governmental organisation (NGO). We have Special Consultative Status with the UN (New York, Geneva, Vienna), General Consultative Status at UNICEF (New York) and the Council of Europe (Strasbourg), and maintain operational relations with UNESCO (Paris). IHEU has observer status at the African Commission on Human and People's Rights.
