Credit unions are not for profit community banks. They are owned and run by their members solely for the benefit of their members. No outside shareholders, huge salaries, or bonuses.
Money is circulated within the local community. Members’ savings fund loans and the interest charged on those loans funds a return on members savings in the form of dividends (when the Credit Union is in surplus).
Access to fair cost, flexible loans. All loans are agreed on an individual basis, with no hidden extras or charges. Borrowers know where they stand from the start.
For the personal touch. St Albans District Credit Union is run primarily by unpaid volunteer members, providing a friendly service based in the saver’s and borrower’s own community. All lending decisions are made locally.
Joining is simple. Anyone living or working in St Albans District can join the St Albans District Credit Union by paying a £2 registration fee and making a minimum £1 saving deposit.
