1st Malvern Company The Boys' Brigade Company Information

General information

The Boys' Brigade was founded in Glasgow on 4th October 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith. From this one Company formed in Scotland the BB has grown into a world wide movement having worked with millions of Boys and young men for well over a century. The present Malvern Company was founded in May 1988 is parented by Malvern Baptist Church (MBC).

Incorporating the Christian faith the Boys' Brigade seeks to promote in a structured way, the values of obedience; discipline; self respect and all that tends towards true Christian manhood.

The award programme is specifically designed to encourage a Boy of any age to look beyond themselves. Many are interested in one type of activity - perhaps sports, or natural history. Our special programme provides for such interests and at the same time gently urges them to try others of a different type. This provides a balanced all round programme - which includes spiritual and social input as well as physical and adventure activities in 5 different programme zones . . . right through until they are 18 years of age and young men ready to take on the world.

Body - fit for fun
Mind - think and do
Spirit - God and me
Community - me and my world
Creativity - make and do

All officers are CRB checked and have received child protection training

Anchor Section

The Anchor section is for Boys aged between 5 and 8 years. To be inclusive they all wear a special red top uniform and hats - they meet between 18.00 & 19.15 hours every Friday in term time - subs £77.50 per year (£2.50 per night).

What do they do?

The Anchor Section has lots of fun doing different activities which include making things, crafts, music, games, sports, stories, going on visits, making friends, and working towards their badges. Everything a Boy in the Anchor Section does helps them to develop and to think for themselves, in a safe environment in line with the programme.

Junior Section

Juniors is our second section and is for Boys aged between 8 and 11 years meeting between 18.00 & 19:15 hours every Friday. They too wear a special blue top uniform and hats to help them feel they belong.

What do they do?

Juniors have fun! Their meetings are crammed full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that they themselves have suggested. At the same time we try to encourage them to explore other new interests. There is loads of variety and little chance of becoming bored!

Juniors will get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks or a firestation as well as possibly going on a weekend camp or holiday that is often the highlight of the year. Subs £77.50 per year (£2.50 per night)

On some weeks the year 5 and year 6 boys combine with the older section to complete challenges or learn band instruments. Those weeks they stay until 19:45 or 20:15.
