General information
Once upon a time, when Norwich was one of the busiest market towns in the country, the city had a pub for every day of the year. Why, we almost had two pubs for every day, boasting as many as 600 in 1884. The 1904 Licensing Act, Second World War and widespread slum clearances of the 1960s were responsible for a marked decline in these figures with the number of public houses in King Street alone falling from 58 to just one. Raise a glass then to the lost taverns, tap houses and inns of King Street.
