For the past 13 years I’ve seen the enormous positive impact live-in support has on people’s lives.
Following a 16-year career in sales and marketing, I started a care franchise in 2002 and one of my first ever clients needed a live-in carer. Since then, it has always been a passion of mine.

I operated the business for 13 years, employing over 100 carers, and had more than 350 clients at any one time. Our clients came from all walks of life and needed different specialised care. Whether recuperating from a spell in hospital or hindered by a long-term condition or disability, giving them the support they needed in familiar surroundings near friends and family couldn't be beaten. It's why I'm so passionate about live-in support.

I was then inspired by my mother to set up Eximius and deliver an altogether superior service. She is wonderfully spirited, sophisticated and fiercely independent, despite being 80 years old with floundering memory. She's the yardstick against which I measure the service we provide and the reason I believe that everyone should be able to stay in their homes, living the happiest and most independent lives they can.

My vision for Eximius is that, while we still support complicated care needs, the focus is on our clients' lives, what they love doing, their hobbies, their interests – with Eximius support companions ensuring that they receive the exceptional help to enable them to live their lives to the fullest.

Eximius puts my 29 years as a registered general nurse to the best use. It’s a dream for me. What can I say? Patient care, holistic health, nutrition – I can use it all.

My father was a senior doctor in the Royal Air Force, so I was raised on high standards and an unwavering sense of duty. I trained as a staff nurse at the Royal London Hospital where the values I learnt in childhood were as highly prized as the meticulously pleated hats and starched aprons we wore.

During my career, I’ve amassed in-depth knowledge in chronic pain management, diabetes, vitamin D deficiency, alcohol dependence and gastrointestinal disorders. I’ve developed my interests in food and nutrition, qualifying as a nutritionist from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition. I even put my diploma to excellent use, setting up my own practice and managing a huge caseload of patients.

Since then, I’ve continued to branch out into other fields and recently completed my Dementia Friends Champion training. I believe it’s vitally important to help people understand the needs of those living with dementia, not only among our support companions but also in society as a whole.

All of this experience has led me to what is arguably the best role of my career: Care Manager at Eximius. Alongside Kate, we’ll do whatever it takes to deliver the best live-in support there is.
