General information

Protos Packaging is an importer, stockist and converter of food grade polypropylene and other flexible packaging films such as polyester, cellulose, polyolefin, biodegradables and laminates.

Our conversion, warehouse and administration facilities are housed under one roof at our premises in Sharpness, Gloucestershire, that allows us to optimise the fast and flexible service we offer to our customers. Our production facilities include flexographic printing, reel-to-reel slitting, folding, (J-folding and centre-folding), multi-perforating (both micro-perforation and punched holes), sheeting and bag-making.

With a purpose-built warehouse facility of 10,000 sq feet, in addition to 300 tonnes of bulk raw material, we have the capacity to offer an impressive range of standard products ex stock including single wound film rolls and centre-folded film rolls, bags and sheets that allow our customers to order on a "just-in time" basis.

Protos Packaging was started in 1988 by Phil Fussell and Nicky Kendall who each had many years of experience working in the flexible packaging industry, notably British Cellophane in Bridgwater, Somerset, and Bristol-based companies Colodense, Colodense Liquid Packaging and Cannings Parry Packaging.

From humble beginnings in the top floor of a house in rural Gloucestershire, Protos rapidly expanded and moved into its own small manufacturing premises in Berkeley, then a larger unit on Sharpness Docks. In 1996 the company moved to its present location at Burma Road. Improvement to the site included extra production facilities in 1998 , which allowed all production facilities to be brought under one roof, and the construction of a new warehouse in 2000 with a storage capacity of 300-400 tonnes of raw material. New storage facilities buffered customers from potential long delivery lead times and delays inherent in importing raw material.

More than a quarter of a century later Protos Packaging is still privately owned and managed. A key strength of the Company is the experience and commitment of the key management team, most of whom have been with the Company for more than a decade and are well versed in meeting the needs of our customers, both old and new.
