Chestnut Lodge Company Information

General information

Lodge
Chestnut Lodge is a traditional log cabin built with timber from Estonia’s renewable forests. It is situated on the outskirts of Pilling village on a working dairy farm. It is a great place to be if you are looking for somewhere quiet to escape or a base to visit the area, with Pilling being very popular with cyclists.

The lodge accommodates 4 people in a king size and a twin room. There is a shower room; fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher; utility room with washing facilities; an open plan living/dining area with a log effect gas stove as well as under floor heating. It is fully furnished to a high standard.

Chestnut Lodge has its own driveway and private garden with a patio area and garden furniture.

Local area
The area is very flat and there are many country lanes to explore. Pilling village has a local shop including post office, pub and a pottery with a tearoom. Less than half a mile away is Springfield House Restaurant and Hotel, the perfect place for any celebration. Lane Ends Amenity Area overlooks Morecambe Bay and is used regularly to ‘twitch’ for the many sea birds feeding on the tides in the estuary. The site is protected as part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The area is rich in wildlife, especially birds. Just before dawn the resident Tawny Owls and the Barn Owls are frequently seen flying past the lodge and down the open fields and after dark the bats come out to play.

Pilling sands (a twenty minute walk), are a bird watchers paradise. In winter there are thousands of Pink Foot Geese and many Hooper Swans coming in to feed. They even land in their fields and feed alongside the other birds.

Garstang is nearby, which is a small market town with a big history. Garstang is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The medieval weinds bring a distinctive character to the High Street and the Market Cross. Garstang has a weekly market, which runs every Thursday and has done since 1310! The Market House is also open Wednesday - Saturday and stallholders sell a good selection of local produce including cheeses, meats and vegetables. The Thursday market along the High Street offer a large selection of stalls including shoes, children's clothes, household goods, plants, books and lots more.

Just up the road from Garstang is the village of Scorton, gateway to the Trough of Bowland (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The Barn is well worth a visit with its garden centre, gift shop, cafe and restaurant.

Travelling north takes you to Cockerham, where there is a parachute centre (The Black Knights), Glasson Dock, and then on to Lancaster (12 miles). A little further is RSPB Leighton Moss Nature Reserve. It has the largest reed bed in North West England, and home to some really special birds such as breeding Bitterns, Bearded Tits and Marsh Harriers. You might see deer too, not to mention butterflies! A little further again is The Lake District, England’s largest national park. There are breathtaking lakes, soaring mountains - known locally as 'fells', picturesque valleys and even sandy coastline. Well worth a visit!

Taking a different direction, heading west you arrive at Knott End on Sea where you could take the ferry crossing to Fleetwood and visit the famous market and Freeport Shopping Centre. Knott End has its own pub, individual shops and an 18 hole golf course that welcomes visitors.

A little further and you reach Poulton le Fylde, Cleveleys and Blackpool with its sandy beaches, tower, illuminations and Pleasure Beach Resort (15 miles). Just down the coast is Lytham St Annes, the home of The Royal Lytham Golf Course.

There are local golf courses at Knott End, Garstang, Forrest Hills and Lancaster.

Fishing is also available locally (15-20 mins by car).
