It is an “Extended Buying Team” to whom you transfer your non-strategic purchases, low in value, and all other purchases that are tend to be bought out of contract and without procurement involvement.
When automation becomes an objective, we are most likely talking about “tail spend”. And that is typically the spend you would ask the Spot Buy Centre to address.

Purchases that fall under the “spot buy” categorization, are frequently left to sourcing professionals who don’t have time to adequately address the spend, or to transaction processors who don’t have the skills to apply procurement best practices.

Because of the importance of spend coverage, implementing a coordinated and centralized spot buy process is a must. It will generate time and savings.
