A lot goes into producing pet foods that meet our high standards. The final product needs to be not only something that your pets look forward to eating, but good for them as well. By our definition, that means that every product in our range needs to be delicious, nutritionally balanced and most importantly highly digestible. A highly digestible kibble means your dog will need to eat less in order to absorb the required daily nutrients to live a healthy happy life – which also means less poop to pick up. In order to ensure that Montego is highly digestible, everything needs to be just right!

Firstly, the raw materials you use need to be of the highest quality. We take this so seriously that we’ve gone so far as to import certain ingredients when we couldn’t source the best quality locally. It might interest you to know that every ingredient found in our products is human grade, “fit for human consumption” (Go on, try some, you know you want to!). Secondly, the formulation needs to be derived from advanced knowledge of both nutrition, and the climactic implications of the environment the food will be consumed in. All of our secret Montego recipes were formulated by Carlos Neves, a renowned authority on pet nutrition and trusted consultant of the South African pet food industry.

And finally, the food needs to be prepared under the optimum conditions at exactly the right temperatures, using the finest machinery available. And that’s just what we do! Full of wholesome goodness, Montego Classic products are prepared according to premium formulations developed by expert animal nutritionists. Made from only the finest ingredients, Classic products are packed full of vitamins and trace elements to give your pet a nutritious, easily digestible food. Balanced with omega 3 and 6 fatty acids for a healthy skin and coat, Classic products will not only improve performance and appearance, but may also increase longevity and quality of life. Montego Classic provides a high-quality, nutritionally balanced diet to provide for the basic dietary needs of dogs.

Montego Karoo, however, is a super-premium dog food – an advanced diet that offers additional ingredients and nutritional benefits to provide for all the advanced needs of an active dog. Montego Karoo dog food is available in Puppy and Adult. Packed with higher levels of fat and protein than Classic products, the Karoo products provide a higher level of usable energy. Karoo products use animal proteins made up of only ostrich with lamb, and include high levels of rice – a highly digestible carbohydrate – for increased energy and digestibility. Karoo also includes gluten, brewer’s yeast and egg powder as additional sources of high-quality protein. Both Karoo products are rich in chondroitin and glucosamine for the development and protection of strong joints, and are high in prebiotic fibres, such as beet pulp and inulin, to promote increased nutrient absorption. Karoo products contain a combination of soluble and non-soluble fibres, which act as a prebiotic and promote healthy bacteria in the gut. Soluble fibres are important to a dog’s diet as they slow down the movement of food through the digestive canal, which increases nutrient absorption.
