Misty Peaks is located on a private eco estate adjacent to the Drakensberg Sun Resort and Hotel in the Champagne Valley - one of the most beautiful of all the Drakensberg mountain valleys.

With Cathkin Peak and Champagne Castle towering over all who enter the valley one cannot help but feel awe inspired by the spectacular scenery. Cathkin peak at 3149m above sea level is not quite the highest mountain in the region, but it is certainly the most prominent feature.

The Drakensberg mountain range is one of the finest hiking destinations in South Africa – and possibly Africa. Many trails are in age old indigenous forests dotted with streams, waterfalls and pools. Others are in the open on the grassy plains and display panoramic views of the mountains. For the serious hiker there are well worn paths into the mountains where most of the towering peaks await your arrival however no matter which direction you choose to follow you will not fail to be amazed at how beautiful the area is and understand why it was awarded world heritage status in two categories – cultural and natural.

On 29th November 2000, this magnificent mountain region of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park joined an extended family of 630 World Heritage Sites. The World Heritage inscription for this mountain area to be known as the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park endorses this place of special environmental importance by the world community to be of “ outstanding universal value” in terms of UNESCO World Heritage Convention.
