Dr. Tekle is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Radiology at the University of Texas, School of Health Sciences San Antonio and Rio Grande Valley. He serves as the Director of Stroke and Neurocritical Care at the Valley Baptist Brain and Spine Network in the Valley Baptist Medical Center Harlingen, a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Dr. Tekle received his medical degree from Addis Ababa University Faculty of Medicine in Ethiopia. He completed his Residency in Neurology at the George Washington University, Washington, D.C., after doing his Internship at Howard University Medical Center, Washington D.C. He then completed a Fellowship in Stroke and Neurocritical Care as well as a Fellowship in Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Tekle authored or co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in critical care of stroke and neuroendovascular surgery. Dr. Tekle is the current chair of the South Texas Trauma Advisory Council–V Stroke Subcommittee. He is a member of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN), the American Heart/American Stroke Association, and International Congress of Interventional Neurology and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Tekle served as United States Peace Corps Medical Officer (PCMO) in Malawi. He also served as Consultant for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Doctors Without Borders (MSF Greece) in Malawi. Dr. Tekle also served as Medical Officer of the Intensive Care Unit at Lilongwe Central Hospital, Malawi.
