Mcgill Clinic Company Information

General information

The walk-in clinic is for urgent care only. Nurses and doctors will not see students in the walk-in clinic for prescriptions or prescription renewals - including contraception - or for physicals, routine testing or referrals. For these services you must schedule an appointment. Flu/cold symptoms If you think you have the flu and don’t have a fever (temperature less than 38°C or 100.4°F), but do have these symptoms: • Sore throat • Stuffy nose • Runny nose • Cough It’s probably a cold. If you have a fever over 38°C (100.4°F), and the fever came on suddenly and is accompanied by these symptoms: • Cough • Sore throat • Significant fatigue • Headache • Muscle aches It’s probably the flu. In either case, it's probably best to stay at home and rest. If you have further questions or concerns, call Info-Sante at 811, or call us and ask to speak to a nurse. Also be sure to check out these prevention tips and/or recovery tips. If you have additional symptoms, please refer to the Government of Quebec's Flu Symptom Decision Chart to determine the best course of action. How it works The walk-in clinic operates on a first come, first served basis. In order to be seen, students must present themselves at the clinic in person; we can not give drop-in appointments over the phone. The doors to the clinic open at 8:30am. As drop-in slots fill up quickly, it is important to arrive at the clinic as early as possible. The McGill Clinic is a high-volume clinic, and while we do our best to meet the needs of all students, we suggest that you arrive before 8:30am in order to maximize your chances of being seen. Although drop-in slots are filled quickly, the services of our Info-Nurse are available from 8:30-4:30. Our nurses can assess the urgency of your medical concern and offer you alternate options. What to bring In order to receive a same-day appointment, students are required to take a number and complete the registration forms. Students must present their valid McGill ID card as well as either their provincial health care card or the McGill Blue Cross health insurance card. We also accept CIDA, CIGNA, COWAN and Great-West Life insurance. If you do not bring your card, you will have to pay for the visit. Please see the section on Insurance for more information. Medical notes Medical notes are given at the discretion of the doctor or nurse and can not be written for a past illness. Permission to be excused from classes and exams rests solely with the faculty or department. For more info on notes, please see the section on Medical Notes & Records. Once the clinic has reached capacity, students in need of medical notes must visit an Off-campus clinic. Cancellation policy Due to the high demand for our clinic services, students who are not present for their appointment will be charged $25.00.
