Eric Strader Pottery Company Information
General information
My love for clay began as a child, when I spent many hours in my grandfather Stanley Kellogg's pottery studio located in Petoskey, Michigan. After graduating from Western Michigan University with a degree in clarinet performance, my wife and I spent a year living in Kalamzoo, MI. She enrolled me in a pottery class at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts as a gift, and I continued my studies there. We then relocated to Goshen, Indiana where I apprenticed with Dick Lehman.
Since 1995 I have been a studio potter in Goshen where I now live with my family Currently I am working out of two studios. I hand throw each piece in my home studio, then transport the work to my kiln in Plainwell, Michigan where it is glazed and fired.
My work includes functional as well as one-of-a-kind pieces. Each pot is hand-thrown on a potter's wheel, and I use several different stoneware and porcelain clays. After applying a combination of glazes, and firing the pots to approximately 2300 degrees F in my gas kiln, they are finished and ready for use. All of my glazes are lead-free and pots are safe for oven, microwave, and dishwasher use. Always bring pots to temperature in a pre-heating oven, and never place them on a stove burner.
