Sharrock's English Bakery

General information

Sharrock's Bakery has a "MADE IN THE USA" heritage that extends over 100 years old. The story goes that the original owner of Sharrock's Bakery, whose name is unknown to this day, migrated from England around 1905 to come work in the mills of the historic seaport New Bedford, Massachusetts. Little is known about Mr. Sharrock, but what started as a small business has turned into today's modern crumpet bakery.

Sharrock's Bakery owner Henry DeJesus In 1990, businessman Henry DeJesus (pictured to the right) purchased Sharrock's Bakery from his father who had taken over the business after the original owner. Henry's father ran the business as more of a hobby producing around 60 packages per week. Henry saw the opportunity for growth and began fine tuning the recipes for larger scale production. Sharrock's Bakery moved to Fairhaven, Massachusetts in 1998 where not only did they continue making hand-made crumpets, but also sold delicious pastries, scones, cakes, cookies, cupcakes, turnovers, sandwiches, soups and more.

The demand for Sharrock's British Style Crumpets became so overwhelming for the small Fairhaven facility. Subsequently, the operation was relocated to a much larger facility in 2002 to the former location of Manhattan Bottling Co. in New Bedford, MA, where it still remains to this day. A custom-built automatic crumpet machine was developed to produce the crumpets at a more rapid pace. Sharrock's Bakery is proud to be a family business where Henry's daughter, Sarah DeJesus, diligently handles daily operations, manages the production line and oversees our team of bakers. Today, the Sharrock's Bakery team produces over 20,000 packages of crumpets per week!
