General information

I have extensive experience with diagnosis and treatment of many different kinds of problems experienced by children and adolescents including depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) among others. I am experienced working with children who have learning disabilities in addition to anxiety and depression. The difficulties experienced by many gifted children with learning disabilities are of special interest to me. I enjoy the process of helping a child or teenager better understand themselves while assisting the family with supporting their growing child. I am also interested in assisting blended families to function well together. I am very knowledgeable about and experienced working with children who have experienced the divorce of their parents. Depending on each person's circumstances, I employ many therapeutic techniques including family therapy when needed and cognitive behavior therapy when appropriate. With permission from parents, I consult with the child's pediatrician and teachers as well as other professionals who work with the family, and attend school conferences. I enjoy doing both psychotherapy as well as psychological testing. I consider the testing process as a beginning of a therapeutic process rather than as an end in itself. The process is one of assisting people to understand their own particular strengths and weaknesses and to build on their strengths.
