Kjötsmiðjan var stofnuð þann 12. mars 1990. Forsaga fyrirtækisins er sú, að þeir feðgar Gunnar Snorrason og sonur hans Sigurður keyptu Kjöt og álegg Smiðjuvegi 24, Kópavogi árið 1984 af Maríusi Blomsterberg.
